What's New On Shudder: May 2017
As April showers bring May flowers, so the AMC-backed horror-streaming service Shudder brings another round of diverse new exclusives in the upcoming month. The May lineup features the festival darling Sweet, Sweet Lonely Girl and the Finnish twist on the slasher story, Lake Bodom.
Sweet, Sweet Lonely Girl: A stylish gothic thriller that evokes the atmospheric dread of 70s horror with a distinct Mario Bava influence. Directed by A.D. Calvo and starring Erin Wilhelmi (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Quinn Shephard (Hostages), Sweet, Sweet Lonely Girl explores the mysterious friendship between quiet Adele and seductive Beth, which blossoms while Adele takes care of her agoraphobic aunt. Sweet, Sweet Lonely Girl hits Shudder on May 4th.
Lake Bodom: Every camper’s worst nightmare came true at Lake Bodom in 1960 when four teenagers were stabbed to death while sleeping in their tent. As the years passed and the case grew cold, the unsolved mystery turned into an urban legend, a creepy campfire story passed from generation to generation. Now, a group of teenagers arrives at the same campsite, hoping to solve the murder by reconstructing it minute by minute. As night falls, turns out not all of them are there to play. Lake Bodom is a visceral treat for true crime enthusiasts, and arrives May 18th.
Also coming to Shudder on May 8th is one of the quintessential revenge vigilante films, the gritty exploitation flick Ms. 45. Directed by the same Abel Ferrara who gave us The Driller Killer and Bad Lieutenant, the movie follows a young woman who is brutally raped twice in the same day, catalyzing a transformation from meek garment district worker into cold-blooded angel of vengeance. Often paired with I Spit On Your Grave in it’s unapologetic woman-driven narrative, Ms. 45 is a grindhouse classic worthy of your time.
