Dark Harbor Opens with More Than Before

LONG BEACH, Calif., (Oct. 4, 2017) – As the sun sets and casts long shadows over the Queen Mary, monsters emerge for the 2017 season of Dark Harbor, Southern California’s most authentically terrifying haunt. This year, Dark Harbor features new experiences, intensified mazes and additional attractions where monsters, mad scientist and maniacal clowns wander through the crowd, ready to give you an unexpected scare.

Dark Harbor kicked off with celebrities with American Exorcist’s Kate Tumanova, Halloween II’s Scout Taylor-Compton, and others walking the black carpet, as we all got ready for a frightful evening.

Then the Harbor opened and we all began our trip through a frightening carnival. The mainstage featured fire dancers, magic shows, and other spook-tacular performances. Plus, there’s the Neverland Ranch’s Sinister Swings and the Aerial Acrobatic stage - where we watched a spooky clown seem to fly like a specter: truly awe-inspiring. Then, we steeled ourselves, and went through the mazes.

There are seven mazes to scare the socks off you, including a new maze: Feast. Feast is the 4th maze on the ship and it takes you through a kitchen and dining area where you can try to survive the legend of Chef. There is a tunnel that you can crawl though, which is terrifying – not for the claustrophobic (or maybe it is).

Other mazes include Intrepid, Circus, DeadRise, Soulmate, B340, and Lullaby.

INTREPID: Meet the mastermind, the creator and now the protector of the Queen Mary, Iron Master.

CIRCUS: Step right up as the Ringmaster startles with disorienting illusions, maniacal magic acts, and a cadre of sideshow freaks.

DEADRISE: Captain and the dark vessel’s crew have risen from the deep for a battle against the living.

SOULMATE: Escape the gloves of Graceful Gale as she feverishly searches for her eternal mate.

B340: Descend into the insidious mind of Samuel the Savage to face his worst nightmares.

LULLABY: Hush-hush don’t cry; Scary Mary is just looking for her next playmate

At Dark Harbor, there is something for everyone. There’s an RIP Lounge with an exclusive VIP bar and all you can eat Tacos; Creepy Cabanas, where one can host a Private party and order a personal freak show and instant access to Sideshow and the Swings; however, as one walks around there are the savory smells wafting through the air and this is where Haley and I tread ourselves to some I Scream and got a Spooky Sundae and the Monster Banana Royal.

I have to admit, as a horror connoisseur, haunts are like a second home and rarely do the haunts scare me, but Dark Harbor got me. I really enjoyed all the mazes and each of them had great visuals, fun monsters, and amazing art/monster design - but DeadRise got me. I have to admit it - I was not expecting to jump. Most of the monsters in haunts tend to ignore me and go after the other, more cowering, guests. However, I walked around a corner and BAM; there was a monster rushing at me and just like the other guests, I jumped and had a vocal reaction (one might call it a scream). So if you can scare me, you are doing a great job!

Board the Dark Harbor Express boat service (operated by Aqua Link) at Shoreline Village at the Aquarium of the Pacific for your short boat ride over to the Queen Mary. Round-trip fees on the Dark Harbor Express are $8 per person and the parking structure is located at 248 W. Shoreline Drive in Long Beach. Cash only.

$15 for parking at Long Beach Courthouse, 6pm – 1:30am

Board a shuttle bus for your complimentary ride over to the Queen Mary located at 101 Magnolia Avenue in Downtown Long Beach. Cash only.
